APN-PAD is excited to announce the publication of the OHCHR report on the Human Rights Situation of People of African Descent in the Asia Pacific Region. This report is the outcome of a joint project between OHCHR and APN-PAD conducted in June to August 2024.
APN-PAD express its profound gratitude to all the community leaders, and civil societies of People of African Descent across the Asia Pacific region who participated, contributed, and made valuable suggestions. Your courage to speak your truths based on your diverse experiences of the human rights situation of People of African Descent in the Asia Pacific region is the bedrock of this significant document.
APN-PAD will continue to advocate at the national , regional and international level for the respect of the rights of People of African Descent and the need for countries in the region to commit to implement the program of activities for the United Nations International decade for People of African Descent.
The release of this report will ensure that the voices of People of African Descent in the Asia Pacific region are not ignored or forgotten by member states and key stakeholders . It will inform the strategic report of the United Nations Secretary General to member states at the conclusion of First International Decade for People of African Descent. It will also guarantee that the human rights challenges of People of African Descent in Asia Pacific region is featured in the United Nations High-Level Meeting at the Conclusion of the International Decade for People of African Descent in New York.
APN-PAD would like to take this moment to acknowledge its amazing team of regional experts for their enduring, sustained and empowering transnational engagements, education, networking, advocacy and awareness raising for a joint transnational strategy to foster the recognition of the presence, challenges, and contributions of People of African Descent in the region that finally led to this strategic collaboration and landmark report.
